Profiling and sharpening

Bowl radius is ground to give sharp edges, this so that you can start and brake quickly. A cup radius can be different and can thus be different for each person. You can see the shell radius if you look at the rail from the back or front. Profile is also ground and it is a type of radius that is ground to get the right shape seen from the side. The profile brings more balance on the ice and facilitates starting, stopping and turning. With the right profiled skate rail, you have the same grip if you lean forward to accelerate as you do when you lean back to turn.

Here are some examples of different hockey profiles
Single Profiles:

11' - Profile for younger players who have learned to ride with good technique and balance. Fits best up to rail size 272.

12' - Contributes to more speed and stability than shorter radii. A popular profile for players who want to go on a single radius. Best suited for rail size up to 280.

13´ - Optimal profile for a fully developed player who wants to go on single radius. Fits best on rails in the size range 263-296.

14´ - Optimal profile for heavy playing defenders. Fits best on rails in the size range 280-312.

15' - A radius for good balance, especially for lighter players. Increases the opportunity to improve with posture.

17' - Profile that gives heavy players the opportunity to develop their stance. Increases speed, even in overshooting, worse for acceleration and mobility.

19' - Profile that brings very good balance. Made for beginners who need to learn to stand on the ice without falling.

Dual Profiles:

Detroit 1 - 10 ́ and 20 ́ - Gives speed and good balance. Good mobility. Modest flexibility.

Detroit 2 - 13 ́ and 26 ́ - Suitable for heavy slopes. Good backwards skiing.

Combo 10 ́-13 ́- N - Very good acceleration, fast turns and overstepping.

Combo 9´ - 10´ - N - Very good acceleration, fast turns and overstepping. For lighter skiers. For rail sizes up to 263.

Toronto 1 - 7'-10' - Acceleration, tight turns and overstepping. For light elite players. Rails in sizes up to 246.

Toronto 2 - 9'-15' - Contributes to acceleration and good balance. Fits best on rails up to size 280.

Toronto 3 - 11 ́-17 ́ - Brings acceleration and good balance. Suitable for large slopes. Fits best on rails up to size 288.

Win 1 - 9.5 ́-10.5 ́ - Increases acceleration, simplifies tight turns and overstepping. For lighter players. Fits best on rails up to size 272.

Win 2 - 10 ́-11 ́ - Good acceleration, fast turns and overstepping. Gives better top speed than in comparison with Win 1. For lighter players. Best suited for rail sizes up to size 280.

Triple profiles:

Zuperior S - The combination 6'-12'-26'. Improves acceleration, mobility, speed, and balance. Provides fantastic contact with the ice. It is a perfect choice for a forward as it provides stability for melees on the wing and in the corners. Fits best on rail sizes 246-254-263.

Zuperior M - The combination 6'-13'-26'. Best suited for light players and for rail sizes 272-280-288.

Zuperior L - The combination 6'-14'-26'. Best suited for medium-sized players and for the 272-280-288 rail sizes.

Quad profiles:

Quad 1 - The combination 6 ́-9 ́-12 ́-15 ́. Acceleration, mobility, speed and balance are optimized. The best total solution. This combination supports in all kinds of situations. Suitable for offensive and defensive players. Fits best on rail sizes 254-263-272-280.

Quad 2 - The combination 7 ́-10 ́-13 ́-16 ́. Same as Quad 1, but provides more stability and speed. Fits best on rail sizes 263-272-280-288-296.

Which profile suits you best?
To calculate your specific cup radius profile, divide your body weight by Pi.
Example:
90kg/3.14=28.662, then round off to 29 and you have your bowl radius.

The rail can be ground with different cup radius on different parts of the rail. In which way, how many different and with what radius depends on a number of different factors. For example, it can be about how experienced a skater you are, what in skating is used/prioritised the most, etc. In the end, it still comes down to feeling right. Likewise with the above calculation of bowl depth. It absolutely does not have to be the result of the calculation that feels the best for you, it is more of an indication of how it could be.
